Critical Mass Summit 2023: Changing the face of Defence
A gathering of over 100 DE&I professionals from the Defence sector came together on 10th July 2023 to listen and learn from each other, and importantly from people outside of the sector where change has already, or is already, happening.
The experts and organisations we heard from shared their journey's on tackling similar challenges and making headway.
Our guest speakers included:
- Daryl Fielding - shared stories from her career and went into detail about 'that Dove advert' which pioneered the use of real women to campaign for real beauty.
- Louise Gear, Head of Development, Grass Roots Division at the FA - spoke to us about the rise of women's football and making transformational change in a historically male lead sport.
- Professor Rosie Campbell, Director of the Global Institute for Women’s Leadership - provided invaluable insights and research about the importance of signals: "women are here, we just need to know we're wanted".
- Nikki Fox, Chief Human Resources Officer at Babcock - opened the session with her impassioned speech about inclusion and diversity in the Defence sector and how powerful women having a seat at 'the table' is for progression and innovation.
- Rt Hon Dr. Andrew Murrison MP - gave his support and showed commitment for real change in the Defence sector: "Our aim is to make Defence an attractive and safe place for women".
Our inaugural Critical Mass Summit proved a worthwhile experience for our attendees and. The inspiration and knowledge taken from the day will help move the dial towards critical mass in within each organisation.
